Player Cristiano Ronaldo is such a popular figure that it is hard to imagine him being named after anyone else, let alone a politician from abroad.

The four-time winner of the “Golden Shoe” is Cristiano Ronaldo dos Santos Aveiro, born on February 5, 1985 in Santo Antonio – Funchal’s neighborhood, Madeira. His father is Jose Dinis Aveiro, a seasonal gardener, and his mother is Maria Dolores, a chef. CR7 is the youngest child in the family, he has one brother (Hugo) and two sisters (Elma and Liliana Catia).

Ronaldo’s name was given to him by his parents. Mrs. Dolores chose the name Cristiano. And Mr. Jose Aveiro chose the name Ronaldo, after the US president at that time – Ronald Reagan.

His name is named after the US president – Ronald Reagan.

Even more funny is that although CR7 was born when Reagan was the US president, the name was inspired by the fact that he was Ronaldo’s father’s favorite actor.

Before becoming the 40th president of the United States with two terms, Ronald Reagan had an illustrious film career. He acted in a total of 69 films between 1937-1964. Even Ronald Reagan was honored with a star engraved with his name on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1960.

Ronaldo previously told GQ: “My parents named me after him because they both liked the name and thought it sounded powerful.”

Ronaldo’s parents named him so because they loved the actor Ronald Reagan, even though he was the US president at that time
