As part of the agreement, the two heavyweights will face each other TWICE, with the first fight taking place in Saudi Arabia and the second taking place in Africa.
Wilder responded to a question about the transaction by saying, “That’s the one that’s up next.
“I’ll be setting up my tent for that competition very soon. Between me and him [Anthony Joshua], there is going to be a fantastic, fantastic battle.”
After AJ knocked out Robert Helenius in the seventh round of their battle earlier this month, the American fighter and Joshua began to discuss the possibility of a bout between the two of them.
After suffering losses against Andy Ruiz Jr. and Oleksandr Usyk, the Olympic gold medalist for Team GB and two-time world champion is hoping to get his career back on track. Andy Ruiz Jr. and Usyk were his most recent opponents.
Back in 2018, when both Joshua and Wilder owned all of the heavyweight titles, it appeared that a battle between the two would inevitably take place.
In the end, though, Wilder ended up fighting Tyson Fury instead, therefore the bout never materialized.
The much-anticipated conflict is likely going to take place in January, but there has been no official announcement regarding this matter as of yet.
Eddie Hearn, who is in charge of promoting Joshua, has also provided an update on the bout by saying that he is optimistic that it will be announced within the next few weeks.
He stated, “In order to negotiate this conflict, I have traveled to Saudi Arabia twice.” In London, I participated in two meetings and three meetings respectively.
“I’m not doing it for the sake of joking around. My orders from Anthony Joshua have been, ‘I want to fight Deontay Wilder.’
“The only way that this fight doesn’t happen is if Saudi Arabia doesn’t deliver the fight.”
