Cougar vibes: In fact, Deborra-Lee had already made 20 movies when she and Jackman met on ABC’s 10-episode series Correlli in 1995. She played a prison psychologist and he played a brain-damaged convict.

Hugh said about his wife, “I’m married to the best woman in the world.” She’s great. We’re the best of friends, and we do everything together. She knows a lot.’

He said that they never spend more than two weeks apart because they want to’share everything’ together.

He went on: “We always said we wouldn’t be apart for more than two weeks. Life and work can get crazy at times.

“But we met at my first job, when she was already a big star and I was a nobody. So, we’ve been through everything together, both good and bad, and we always will.

In a 2021 interview with Anh Do for ABC TV’s Anh’s Brush With Fame, Deborra-Lee talked about how she fell in love with Hugh after she left Hollywood and went back to Australia.

She talked about how hard it was to get roles while hanging out with her actress friends Nicole Kidman and Naomi Watts. During a particularly bad time, she met with a psychic, who convinced her to go back home and look for work.

‘”You have to go back to Australia,” she told him. Everything works out in Australia, you’ll meet someone, and you have to leave,”‘ Deborra-Lee told the story.

When she went back to Australia, she got more work than she had in Los Angeles, but her most important role during that time was on the TV show Correlli.

On her own: Deborra-Lee was spotted out on a solo trip on Tuesday in New York City, just three days before she and Hugh announced their separation

Absent band: She was notable missing her wedding ring, though she appears to have gone without it multiple times in recent years, even when accompanied by her husband

Moving fast: It was only weeks after they began dating that Hugh asked Deborra-Lee to marry him, and the couple wed in 1996

Deborra-Lee told People last year that she helped Hugh by going over his lines with him, and she joked that she could have replaced him in The Music Man. She was seen in February in Paris.

Once she got the part, the producers told her good things about her co-star, who they mistakenly called “Jack Hughman.”

She said she had “never heard of him,” but as soon as she met him on set, she felt “instant attraction.”

She joked that her friends teased her that he didn’t seem like a good match for her because “he looks like he bathes.”

They would become close friends and work partners, and in February 2022, Deborra-Lee told People that she would help Hugh learn his lines while he was working on The Music Man musical.

“We do everything together,” she said, adding that she let her entertainer husband do the “tap dancing.”

She even said that she could have done Sutton Foster’s lines “in a pinch” because she knew them so well, even though Foster didn’t like the idea.

She joked, “You’d have to push me on stage.”

Deborra-Lee told People in November 2020 how much her family with Hugh and their children meant to her.

The strange pair: Deborra-Lee joked in a 2021 interview for Anh’s Brush With Fame that her girlfriends thought Hugh was a strange match for her because “he looks like he bathes.”

“Family means you feel safe to me,” she said.

She went on to say, “I always say, “We all need to know that we’re precious.” So, when you have a family, you always know that you’re important to someone.

Deborra-Lee was at the National Night of Laughter and Song with Hugh in 2017 when she gave an interview to People. In the interview, she talked about what made their marriage last as long as it did.

She said, “We meditate together.” “And sometimes we do it with friends, too.” It’s a nice way to spend a Sunday morning. Then everyone comes over for breakfast.’
