Throughout three seasons of Only Murders in the Building, singer-actress Selena Gomez has worn many different coats, in a variety of colors and styles.
Selena Gomez’s fashion style in the movie became a highlight, loved by many audiences, especially the sweaters and jackets that the character Mabel wore.
The surprising reason why Selena Gomez wears a jacket
According to Cinema Blend , it’s no coincidence that Selena Gomez wears such warm outfits throughout the film.
Recently, Emmy-nominated costume designer Dana Covarrubias revealed: “She (Selena Gomez) is very susceptible to colds. People don’t know that we have to work 12 hours a day. And the actors in the film not only have to be beautiful but also natural.
We put a lot of thought into how to make the actors really comfortable. Like with Steve Martin and Martin Short, I always made sure they had comfortable shoes and clothes that they could move in. And with Selena, I was always worried that she would be cold. So we always had her wear warm coats.”
With the exception of the gorgeous wedding dress in episode 8 of season 3, Mabel’s outfits typically consist of a chunky sweater, an interestingly patterned jacket, a pair of platform boots, and a fun skirt or pants.
The costume designer explained that the platform boots symbolize Mabel’s tough appearance, while also helping to “cheat” Selena Gomez’s height, allowing the character to run and jump frequently without difficulty.
In addition, the character Mabel always carries headphones with her, representing a closed lifestyle with the world and is a typical model of a New York City resident.
Throughout the process of solving the case, this character also has many impressive fashion moments.
When chasing a suspect, she stood out in a green Proenza Schouler faux fur coat. When visiting an art gallery, she wore a Dries Van Noten coat.
As she strolls around her apartment, she wears a range of chic knitwear, from classic black turtlenecks to diamond-patterned tops.
Cinema Blend found Mabel’s costumes to be aesthetically pleasing but also practical and warm, perfect for long days on set.
