Selena Gomez has been experiencing a lot of stress lately as she travels globally to promote her bold new film Emilia Perez, which tells the story of a drug lord who undergoes a gender transition. This pressure has led to breakouts for the former Disney star, and on Tuesday, she made the rare choice to showcase her pimples publicly.
“Even my skin is over me rn,” Gomez candidly captioned the photo. She also shared with E! News that the discussions surrounding her potential Academy Award nomination for her portrayal of the drug lord’s unstable wife have added to her anxiety. “I don’t know what’s going to happen. I’m stressed—I’m already breaking out,” remarked the girlfriend of Benny Blanco.
This follows her statement that her Emilia Perez co-stars made her feel “safe” on set.
In the film, she has to perform a wild dance on a bed, threaten the “aunt” of her deceased drug kingpin husband, and kiss her pimp.
The 32-year-old actress shared the screen with Zoe Saldana and Karla Sofia Gascon in this comedy-drama, and Selena has acknowledged the strong bond she formed with her fellow actresses.
When asked if they created a sisterhood during filming, Selena told Extra, “A thousand percent. These women are not only bold and strong; they are nurturing, and they made me feel safe. Even in the craziest scenes, I felt at ease knowing I could lean on them if I needed to. They’re really talented, so I had to step up my game and try to match their level.”
